| Candidate
for MEMBER, CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT 8
I, JASON N. OVERMAN, hereby declare that I am a candidate
for an elective office in the City of Berkeley, and make
the following statement:
1. That my name is Jason N.
Overman.
2. The office for which I am a candidate is City Council,
District 8.
3. That my residence is 2461 Warring Street #204.
4. The place of my birth is Washington, District of Columbia.
5. My present occupation is Rent Stabilization Board Commissioner.
6. I have held the following public offices: Commissioner,
City of Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board; Chair, Committee
on Outreach; Member, 4x4 Joint Task Force Committee on Housing,
Ad Hoc Committee on Condominium Conversion Ordinance
7. Record of community service: Alliance for a Better California;
Community Service Officer, UC Police Department; Tenants
Rights Director, ASUC; Working Group on Parking Replacement;
CalPIRG; Campaign for America’s Future
8. I am a taxpayer in the City of Berkeley.
9. It’s essential to provide a viable alternative
to the out of touch incumbent; he’s failed miserably
to address critical issues facing our entire community.
Despite the slickest campaign materials his money can buy,
a visit to my website, www.JasonOverman.com, will demonstrate
his failures and my solutions; see why he’s called
Berkeley’s worst councilmember.
Despite campaign promises, he voted to close fire stations
and eliminate funding for 19 police and fire positions;
I would push to reverse these devastating cuts as my first
act in office.
He’s failed to ameliorate traffic; I have concrete
plans to ease congestion.
He voted to increase homeowners’ tax burden, and proposed
seven ways to raise rents; I’d fight to make living
here more affordable without inappropriate development.
He was the lone vote refusing to oppose Schwarzenegger’s
special election, the lone vote against the Asian American
Affairs Commission, and he made a secret, backroom settlement
with university executives that dumped more traffic in our
neighborhoods, leaving us voiceless and in the dark.
The incumbent’s record of increasing the tax burden
while cutting essential services has hurt our entire community.
Join the AFL-CIO Central Labor Council in supporting a new
vision that will lead us forward—together.
