The incumbent is clearly out of step with
the values and priorities of our district.
He boasts of fiscal responsibility, yet his out of touch
record shows his priorities: he's cut funding for the
police department and voted to close down fire stations,
while voting to raise the tax burden on homeowners and
proposed 7 ways to raise rents.
His vote in favor of the secret, backroom settlement deal
shows the incumbent's approach to improving town-gown
relations: he shut our community of the process and voted
for this secret agreement that dumped more traffic in
our neighborhoods without any public input.
He was the only councilmember who voted against a resolution
that expressed opposition to Governor Schwarzenegger's
wasteful special election in 2005, and he was the lone
vote against keeping the statewide Asian American Affairs
Commission.
The incumbent has done little to fix our traffic mess,
and I've got concrete solutions to ease congestion.
He's ignored the concerns of our senior citizen community,
voting against the warm water pool, failing to respond
to requests for a bus shelter outside Redwood Gardens,
and voting against funding new senior housing.
He's left students out of decision-making. According to
a 2005 study, he appointed only one student out of his
35 commissioners.
We aren’t neighbors or students, moderates or progressives,
homeowners or tenants—we’re one community
in need of leadership that works hard on the issues that
affect us all.
I'll bring everyone back in who has been shut out by secrecy--and
work to strengthen public safety, fix our traffic problems,
and make it easier to afford living in our community.
The incumbent is out of step on all the issues that affect
our lives every day, and I’ll bring the leadership
and the vision that will represent us all.
