As the richest state in the richest country in the world,
it’s shameful that we still do not provide access
to health care for all our people.
While we must pressure our state and federal governments
to create universal access to health care, we cannot wait
around for them to do what we, as a city, have the moral
imperative to do ourselves.
No easy task, universal affordable health care is not
only possible, it’s the right thing to do.
I want to explore working with great leaders like Oakland
Mayor-Elect Ron Dellums to create locally-based universal
health care.
Berkeley has its own health department, giving this critical
concept a base of support to get the ball rolling.
This isn’t just a great idea whose time has come.
It’s something we can no longer afford to wait for.
